Bicycle
Giveaway FOP Show
Just a reminder, since we didn’t give bicycles away at our show,
we’ll be giving them away at the FOP show this weekend. Special thanks to
Randall Gibson and Rainbow Motors and to the anonymous donor that provided
bicycles.
Thanks to Dick Cartwright and
Charlie Ball for input.
From Dick:
Season 5 episode 13 of Detroit
Muscle has a feature on Mark Coates near the end, it also
shows a locally owned '55 Chevrolet.
We have Hurd
that Norman Davis is now giving oil changes as wedding presents. The
prospective groom is at Myrtle Beach and could not be reached for comment.
Randy and Betsy Bledsoe, Dick
Cartwright and Susie, Daniel and Jan Gibson, and Rayford
Dingus went to Hiawassee Georgia for The Mountain Moonshine show. This is a
nice show in a beautiful town surrounded by mountains and Lake Chatuge. The show ground is adjacent to the motel parking
lot. I highly recommend this show.
On the way home, we had the
misfortune to see firsthand that 58 year old drum brakes don't stop as well as
late model power assisted disc/drum brakes, Rayford
rear-ended Daniel's Nova causing substantial damage to his pristine '61
Corvette, and it didn't exactly help Daniel's car either, fortunately nobody
was hurt.
My (Dick's) 55 Chevrolet,
steering was sloppy when driving straight, going into, and coming out of turns.
Brent Vandervort told me the late model
Mustang power steering rack must be centered, otherwise it will
"hunt" for center. I had centered the rack lock to lock, but had
adjusted one tie rod more than the other when I set the toe
resulting in the rack being off center, causing my problems. Rack is now
centered car drives right.
From
Charlie….maybe:
We
“Hurd” from a reliable source that due to taking a
shortcut back to their hotel in Myrtle Beach after eating dinner, that Bill and
friend ended up in Darlington, SC.
Several
KARC members made the trip to Louisville for the NSRA Nationals. There was over 10,000 registered. PeeWee
Phipps informed Jerry Collins he was happy to see Jerry was wearing his Sulphur Springs Leisure Suit. One member, who left
Saturday, took a short cut home only to wind up back in Louisville 2 ˝ hours
after leaving. Maynard gave us a little scare Saturday, but, recovered and
seemed to be feeling better Sunday. Everyone had a great time. Many hours were
spent, sitting in the parking lot, to see who could tell the biggest tale.
It
was my (Gary Price) turn for Murphy and his law to take over. First, on the way
up Wednesday, a rubber fuel hose decided to become a geyser. Second, older
header collector gaskets decided to blow out. Then, the icing on the cake came
on the way home, Sunday, when we stopped for gas. The old Plymouth wouldn’t
start. Initially, we thought the starter got hot due to being right next to the
exhaust leak. Pouring ice water on the starter didn’t help. Crawling under and
removing the starter revealed the culprit. A flex plate to torque convertor bolt
had fallen out and was jamming the starter. Dad said, “eight
people stood around and watched one work”. But, he was really thinking nobody
else could fit under there with Gary anyway. Pooling my own roadside toolkit,
jacks and tools from Daris, Maynard, Perry and Dad
(Phil) we were able to get back on the road after an hour or so. We also
learned Maynard had a nickname, Spider, during this extended stop.
125
lb legs on a 250 lb body. Pit Crew and moral
support
Hotrodders (especially KARC
members) really are good people. None would leave until I was back running.
Gary Whittington brought his 65 Mustang back
from the painter’s. It’s looking good. He’s coming along well on it. He’s
removed the old 200 six cylinder to make room for a 5.0 liter and AOD., has put a disc brake kit on the front and rear. Gary enlisted
Gary to help with the rear brakes.
