Thanks to Dick Cartwright and Si Vicars for the input.

Charlie Thomas made another RV trip to Alaska.. Charlie said they drove 4423 miles in 17 days, with 13 days driving, as they spent 4 nights in the Riley Creek Campground at Denali National Park. The trip went well with no problems, great weather, and beautiful scenery with lots of animals. Here are some pics from Charlies trip. Looks like a lot of fun.

On June 25, 2019, atop a hill in Bloomingdale, TN, (near Kingsport) on a bright sunny morning, Don Hughes’ 39 Chevy 2 dr. sedan came blasting out of Les Lawson’s body shop with the 350 Chevy’s dual exhaust blaring and Don sitting proudly in the captain’s seat.   Much as an awakened beast after a long winter nap, the rumbling 350 idled down and became a docile street rod ready for it’s maiden trip.  There was a small group of friends and KARC members present, admiring the new addition to the area.   Everyone was impressed with the paint and body work done by Les.   The blinding red paint stood out, super straight, super slick, and super red.  Les had outdone himself.   Don had become anointed into the world of street rod builder.  The 39 is 350 Chevy powered, 350 turbo, M11 front suspension, air conditioned, and is to be sporting Torq thrust 11 wheels in the near future.   From the day Don bought the car, it  had been about 3 years.   The ole Chevy has a nice street rod stance, looks and sounds great.   Good job by a lot of friends of Don, and Don himself once had a piece of sandpaper in his hand.  Don’s assessment, other than being proud, was:  “The next one I buy will be ready to drive”.   Welcome to Street Rod Heaven!

Old School Kool!   On a cool February Thursday evening, as KARC members were gathering at the Golden Corral for our monthly meeting, into the parking lot rolls an all steel 32 Tudor with smoothie steel wheels, and the unmistaken sound of a flathead with the correct mufflers.  It had been built in the 50’s and still retained a lot of the 50s flavor.  Mother nature had given the Tudor a gentle covering of patina that matched the flathead rumble.  Lo and behold the driver of the old school Kool 32 was KARC member Bill Pettis, who had driven from Rogersville with no heater.    Listed below are some of the highpoints of the old hot rod, as per Bill’s memory:   The body is all original Henry’s steel, built sometime in the 50s as a hot rod.   A true survivor, Bill reassembled the drive train with the following parts: A 59 AB rebuilt flathead engine, 37 tranny, 37 rear end with a 3.78 gear, 34 Ford X member and a  34 Ford rear crossmember ………. you can’t help but love it when you see it!

Bruce Roberts and Perry Stapleton took their 9" Ford center sections to Spraker Racing in Mooresville North Carolina for a rebuild. Both units were ready in three hours. Sid Vicars had good luck dealing with these people in the past. I expect they will be as quiet as a flea walking across an elephant's tummy with sneakers on.

Gary Whittington just got his Mustang back from Mikel Smith's Butcher Shop with new air conditioning and power brakes.

Rayford Dingus has put disc brakes on the front of his red and white '61 Corvette. I’m (Dick) not sure, but, it is possible that Daniel Gibson helped with this project to keep Rayford out from under his Nova.

Stan Bledsoe's beautiful '55 Ford sedan delivery now has brakes. The problem was caused by a pushrod that was too short. As soon as he replaces the gas tank he and Jenny are ready to hit the road.

Don Hughes has bought a 383 stroker engine for his '70 Chevrolet pickup from Doug Phillips. Mikel Smith is donating a hi-stall torque converter to the project.

New tires and shocks took a worrisome vibration out of Randy Bledsoe's '67 Mustang. Next on Randy's agenda is a hydra boost master cylinder for his Olds Cutlass.

The Newport show was their biggest ever. Local racing legend L.D. Ottinger and some local TV celebrities were signing autographs. The high point for me (Dick) was an honest to goodness moonshine runner built in 1957. The '39 Ford coupe was powered by a highly modified '57 Cadillac Eldorado engine, had a Lasalle transmission, Columbia 2 speed rear axle with beefy suspension and brakes. The car can run 90 MPH in first gear and haul 20 five gallon cans of "ballast". The owner is as unique as the car.

Jim Collier has traded half of his Mustang stable for a Tennessee Twodoor (pickup truck).
